PDAs and Gliding

I’ve got a little project going at the moment to get a PDA working with the gliders.

I’ve got See You Mobile running on a borrowed Acer n30. The first attempt at connecting it to the volkslogger didn’t work (I was using a slimline gender-bender). The second attempt with a home-made null modem cable worked, connected to the on-board OzFlarm

I have to devise a way of having the PDA operational in flight, where it won’t come up and hit me in the scone! I was thinking of some straps and excessive use of velcro.

LOL is this Lucas from GGC? i just posted on woolley’s 500 blog and followed the link from
    your comment here.

Yup, that is me, from GGC since January this year. What did you mean going down to two layers of clothing? I only had two rather thin layers yesterday. It was OK if were in the sunlight. :-)

  3. Jarrod says:

Yes but the sunlight was few and far between. i had the 2 layers on yesterday and was OK
for the most of it. I dont know how you weren’t cold though!

Many duty crews out on a tarmac at 0300 hours. You quickly learn how to block the cold. That, and the ability to make coffee last..

    Lucas,

I’ve been using WinPilot on my PDA for a while now. Please let me know if you need any info. Andrew M. has been using SeeYou mobile, you could talk to him…

    Regards
    Jarek

    PS
I approved your link to this blog on the GGC site

    Thanks for that, Jarek.

SeeYouM seems to work well. All I have to do now is find a way to use the PDA in the air without it floating around in the cockpit. I tried to use some straps + velcro, but it didn’t seem secure. I’ll have to get some elastic.
