Merry Christmas everyone..
I’ve got a roast lamb in the oven for the hoards that should be banging on the gate (erm.. front door) in little over an hour from now.

Since the last GSR I’ve had 5 flights, 1 solo of 18mins, 2 winch launchs, and two instructional flights.
The instructional flight was interesting as I had my first non-on-purpose spin. Agressive angle of bank, slow thermalling speed, fell out of said thermal with the nose slightly high, slipped alittle, correct with a bit of rudder, and whammo – insta spin. Scared both me and the instructor
We did some spin trainng after I calmed my nerves down a bit.
I’ve been off with hayfever, so the last three weeks, I haven’t been flying
Totals: 30h15 (6h44 solo) over 98 (24) flights.
Yay! I’ve done my conversion flight in the SZD-50-3 Puchacz (one step closer to the single seat SZD-51 Junior). Two flights, 13 and 18 minutes.
Totals: 28h23 (6h26 solo) over 93 (23) flights.
Just one flight today, of 23 minutes in the K13. It looks as though I’ll be in the K13 a while longer, as I haven’t done the requisite number of hours (even though I’ve done the number of flights). I need about 4 more hours in the K13, so I should really only go out on good days.
Even then, I’ll be in the Puchacz, not in the Junior (a bit of a setback, but hey, rules are rules)
Totals: 27h52 (5h55 solo) over 91 (21) flights.
I’ve been away from home for a week and a half, out doing a sargent course. We did leadership exersizes, many discussions on observing people, conflict resolution and the like.
A lot of the stuff that we do already, but formallised and expanded.
Great fun.
I haven’t written one of these in a while, so here goes..
Since the last GSR, I’ve done one flight on the winch, and three solo aerotow flights. The Last solo flight was interesting beause I erroniously left the break off too late, too low. Ended up having to land on the cross strip. Embarrasing.
Totals: 27h29 (5h32 solo) over 90 (20) flights.
Today I had two winch launches, full control over the whole launch. The first one I got a little excited in the transition, and pulled up to quickly. The second one was better, but the initial climb was too flat.
I managed to get the PDA to talk to the club’s Volkslogger. It seemed to require 4800b, not the 19200b that the OzFlarm requires.
Totals: 26h34 (4h44 solo) over 86 (17) flights.
I hate having the flu.
Apart from the total lack of energy to do anything, I can’t go flying!
I’ll have to see the Doc again tomorrow, as I may have a bacterial infection
I’ve got a little project going at the moment to get a PDA working with the gliders.
I’ve got See You Mobile running on a borrowed Acer n30. The first attempt at connecting it to the volkslogger didn’t work (I was using a slimline gender-bender). The second attempt with a home-made null modem cable worked, connected to the on-board OzFlarm
I have to devise a way of having the PDA operational in flight, where it won’t come up and hit me in the scone! I was thinking of some straps and excessive use of velcro.
Since the last GSR, I’ve done some training .. four winch launches and a general training flight for the post-solo syllabus.
The last winch launch got a little exciting, as we had a real life cable break! It was (fortunately) just after separation, so we were at most 2-3 ft off the ground. As for the winch training, I’m up to taking control just after the transition to full climb.
Totals: 26h19 (4h44 Solo) over 84 (17) flights.
Saturday I was trying for my 30minute flight for my B certificate. 4 Attempts, and no joy
17,13,13,21 minutes
Sunday I had one 14 minute flight and one 53 minute flight! Yay!
Totals: 24h55 (3h58 Solo) from 77 (15) flights
On Saturday:
Due to my enthusiasm for a winch launch I only managed one flight – a hanger flight from runway 01 to runway 27 for a duration of 19 minutes. (The winch broke just before our launch .. dammit)
On Sunday I had my first taste of wave lift. Unfortunately, it was only a taste, as by the time I got there, it had peatered out
Two flights today, one of 25 minutes, and a hanger flight for 18.
Totals: 22h44 (1h47 solo) over 71 (9) flights.
